Why did Jesus do the things he did? What was his mission? These are questions that not only help us understand the meaning of Jesus’ life, but also shed light on the meaning of his death and resurrection. In other words, we can’t fully appreciate why Jesus died until we understand why he lived.

In this bible study course, led by Fr David, we examine these questions through the lens of St Matthew’s Gospel. Each session will focus on a section of Matthew’s Gospel in order to gain a greater understanding of Jesus’ mission in Israel some two thousand year s ago and find some insights into what this means for our Christian life today.

The study will be on the following dates:
26th April – Jesus and his Ancestors
3rd May – The King’s Anointing
10th May – Battle in the Desert
17th May – The Challenge of the Kingdom
24th May – Putting the Kingdom into Action
7th June – Conflict in and the New Israel
14th June – Re-imaging the Messiah
21st June – Jesus and the Temple
28th June – The Trial of the King
5th July – The Victory of the Cross

Each session will start at 7.00pm and finish by 8.00pm at the latest.

Please bring a Bible with you. We will use the NRSV translation during the course but please feel free to bring another translation if you wish.
